Ryan is a master’s level educator, high school biology and environmental science teacher, former cross country and golf coach, and former PGA golf professional. Ryan has been a golfer and golf instructor for over 25 years, caddied on the LPGA tour, and a high school teacher for over 12 years. Ryan’s goal is to instruct, teach, and “drive growth through the game of golf”. Ryan believes golf is a “forever sport” and hopes to make golf more accessible to children and teens so they can learn more about this lifelong health and wellness activity. Ryan lives with his family and two dogs in the Pine Barrens in New Jersey and loves to spend as much time outdoors as possible, whether it’s hiking, cycling, relaxing, or golfing.

Ryan’s Golf Story

When I was 14, I took an interest in golf because my mom and step-father played. They took me to the driving range so I could practice and to see if I really liked it. I was hooked. At 15 years old, I began taking formal lessons and I would get dropped off at a local golf course where I’d meet up with other teenagers to play and practice. I made lifelong friendships that year. After that, I played on my high school team and fell in love with the sport my senior year of high school. I liked the combination of the physical and mental aspects of the game; it taught me a lot. I learned how to manage the emotional roller coaster, how to stay positive, and how to focus.

As an adult, I love that golf gets me outdoors and keeps me active. Most of all, I feel like golf is a sport that I have been able to stay competitive in, whether it’s against others or it’s me against the course. I’ll never learn everything about the game, which drives me to keep growing to that next level. I love that I can go to any golf course and enjoy the challenge that it presents. Playing with others is so interesting to me too because each person has their own unique perspective of the course and will approach it differently. The best thing of all is that it’s the ultimate game of chase.

Being that golf is a sport for any age, I have loved teaching my children (and even my wife when she’ll let me - ha!). It’s fun, it’s great for the family, and there’s nothing like seeing their faces light up when they have their “wow” moment when they hit their own perfect shot.

What’s your golf story? I’d love to hear it!
